After being ignored at Anonymous…
I stopped next door at the Johnny Cupcake-esque Butcher Shop on Bay and Drayton mid-July with a handful of moon references. Jenny, the receptionist/shop manager was excited from the start. A week later I came back for the consultation with Jimmy Butcher who really liked the idea. There is a $50 deposit that goes towards the total cost of your tattoo, they also work around your budget. I rescheduled 12 times because of a certain other job (I’m not legally allowed to say any more than that).
I got it started at the beginning of September. Step One: the Lunar Cycle. I had a specific layout, a deep arc from shoulder to shoulder, but everything else came straight out of Jimmy’s imagination. It was the day after my first Rocky Horror performance, I had so much fucking glitter in my eyes, which hurt more than the tattoo did. It took 5 to 7 hours with no breaks. I tipped him when he was done, but I felt like I didn’t leave enough…so I went back the next day and gave him more. (How much are you supposed to tip a tattoo artist? Who tells you these things?)

Wear your meat.
A month later I got started on Step Two: Near and Far Sides of the Moon. Originally I was going to have them on my shoulders but ultimately opted to place them right below my clavicle, to flow better with the arc. These probably took another 5 hours. The left side hurt like a paraplegic that fell behind the stove…I have no explanations. Then I bought a T-Bone T-Shirt. Jimmy Butcher is an amazing tattooist and artist with hobbies varying from painting to djing. He loves Hip Hop and Kayne West (err, I think) he also kept the conversation natural and flowing. Jenny came in every chance she got to say how awesome it looked.

It’s a growing business and brand that I’m surprised more people don’t know about: So fucking get to know it…
